The work of the Sociedade Beneficente Israelita Brasileira Albert Einstein (SBIBAE) in the community of Paraisópolis goes much further than that of the provision of medical services: it also encompasses a wide series of educational and social activities, with the aim of improving the quality of life and promoting citizenship in the city of São Paulo´s second largest shanty town.

Launched in 1997, the Programme attends ten thousand children of up to ten years of age, these being registered at the clinic and receiving free medical assistance, including hospitalisation, guidance regarding the taking of the medicines prescribed and various complimentary medical initiatives. Besides these, more than six thousand have benefitted from the social and educational actions promoted by the Centre for the Promotion and Attention to Health (CPAS) in the areas of nutrition, women´s health, physiotherapy, phonoaudiology, psychology, education, arts, sports, leisure, social services and the promotion of citizenship.
